Before you apply
Only registrants can practise — or use the title.
In Ontario, “Massage Therapist,” “MT” and “RMT” are protected titles. Students and recent graduates cannot practise massage therapy, or hold themselves out as a therapist, until they are registered with CMTO. Registration is how the public knows a therapist has met the province’s requirements.

Held by registrants who are not currently practising. You cannot practise on an Inactive certificate until outstanding requirements are met.

Educated in Ontario
You graduated from a recognized massage therapy program in Ontario.
Start hereComing from a regulating province
You are an RMT registered in another province that regulates massage therapy — British Columbia, Newfoundland & Labrador, New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island.
Labour-mobility pathwayGraduate of a CMTCA-accredited program
You completed a program outside Ontario that is accredited by the Canadian Massage Therapy Council for Accreditation (CMTCA).
CMTCA graduates Accredited programs (CMTCA)International & other graduates
You trained internationally, or in a province or program that isn’t regulated or CMTCA-accredited.

CMTO is committed to registration practices that are transparent, objective, impartial and fair. The College reports publicly on how it registers applicants — including timelines and outcomes — so the process is accountable to everyone who goes through it.
Registration fees are set by the College’s by-laws (By-Law No. 7).
